WESTROW PAYS HOMAGE TO VIDAL SASSOON – THE PIONEER OF THE HAIRDRESSING INDUSTRY
It was announced on Wednesday 9th May, that Vidal Sassoon CBE passed away at the age of 84 following his battle with leukaemia.
An industry icon, he became the most
celebrated hairdresser in the world after blazing a trail in the
hairdressing industry with a fresh way of thinking – his unique
aesthetic and geometric styling in the 1960s was revolutionary for women
looking to free themselves from the constraints of the stiff, set
styles of the previous decade.
Westrow’s co-director, Steve Rowbottom,
began his career at Vidal Sassoon in 1981, working in the Leeds salon
under the tutelage of then creative director, Tim Hartley.
“Those were heady days,” recalls Steve. “Working for such an iconic man and brand has hugely influenced my career and Westrow as a business, as everything we embody uses the principles inherent in Vidal Sassoon’s disciplines. He was a true master of his craft; attention to detail was everything, and his love of precision cutting is something that has never left me after 25 years in business and is at the heart of everything we strive for across the Westrow salon group. He always said ‘if they don’t look good, we don’t look good’ a true industry mantra, and his impeccable standards and creativity ensured he truly ignited British hairdressing. Without his input the industry would not have been what it is today, and he will be sorely missed.”
In lieu of flowers the family has
