Westrow Style for Haven Breast Cancer

The Westrow Artistic Team recently styled the hair at the Haven Breast Cancer Charity Event in Yorkshire.
Held at the 18th Century Oulton Hall in Leeds, employees from First Direct walked the runway in order to raise money for the Haven charity in Leeds, of which Prince Charles has been a patron since 2000.
The charity offers support and help to those whose lives which have been touched by breast cancer, and promotes integrated healthcare specifically designed to support people through their breast cancer treatment.
On the night, Westrow styled the hair of 15 models who strutted their stuff on the catwalk in front of more than 250 guests. A raffle on the night, along with donations at the event and online, raised a grand total of £5,000 for the worthy cause.
Creative Director of the Westrow Artistic Team, Steve Rowbottom, said, “Styling at the First Direct Fashion Show to help raise funds for The Haven was a wonderful opportunity for the Westrow Artistic Team to give something back. Treble up for Matthew

WESTROW’S MATTHEW SUTCLIFFE ANNOUNCED AS MEMBER OF THE PRESTIGIOUS 2013 FELLOWSHIP FOR BRITISH HAIRDRESSING FAME TEAM

Westrow’s award-winning Artistic Director, Matthew Sutcliffe, from Westrow 18 Thornton’s Arcade in Leeds was named as one of only four stylists to make it as a member of the 2013 Fellowship for British Hairdressing FAME Team.

Only four stylists are selected each year by an esteemed judging panel of industry experts to become part of the industry-renowned team. This dynamic new FAME Team was revealed at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Luncheon and Awards, which took place at London’s exclusive Dorchester Hotel on 3rd December.

The Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence is an annual initiative that was created to nurture, encourage and promote an elite group of young, up-and-coming talented hairdressers in all aspects of the industry. Offering unique exposure and a possible platform to future stardom, the FAME Team is the UK hairdressing’s original, and still the best, independent launch vehicle for young creative stylists.

To date 67 young hairdressers have experienced FAME including subsequent British Hairdresser of the Year Umberto Giannini, Antoinette Beenders and Lisa Shepherd.

The team will be in the experienced hands of industry mentors throughout 2013 including Bruce Masefield, UK Creative Director, Sassoon, who will take on the role of Artistic Director and The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Hairdresser of the Year, Bruno Marc Giamattei of Marc Antoni, who will act as FAME Team Manager.

The announcement was the culmination of an incredible year artistically for Matthew, who won the 2012 L’Oreal Colour Trophy in May with Lauren Elliott from Westrow West Park as well as the 2012 IT Guy at the Creative HEAD It List awards. His entry into the 2013 FAME team is a hat trick of success for a stylist destined for the top and it’s clear that Matthew is now well on his way to industry acclaim.

Westrow Director, Steve Rowbottom, said: “Matthew has had an amazing year that most stylists could only dream of. Winning the 2012 L’Oreal Colour Trophy and 2012 IT Guy award this year ensured the hairdressing industry recognised Matthew really is one to watch, but to become a member of the prestigious 2013 FAME Team really is the icing on the cake. His hat trick of success this year is testament to his creativity and skill and he will be waving the Westrow flag throughout his hairdressing experiences as part of the FAME team in 2013.”

The New AW12 Westrow Magazine is out!

Welcome to the Autumn/Winter 2012/13 edition of the Westrow magazine – and what a year it’s been! After the excitement of celebrating our 25 years in business in April we have been on a rollercoaster ride of award wins that have kept the Westrow flag flying high throughout our Silver Jubilee year. As a result, this is a dedicated awards issue to highlight and profile the top creative and business talent within the company. Check out Westrow West Park’s
L’Oréal Colour Trophy win; Matthew Sutcliffe’s ITGuy win; Laura Procter’s Franchisee of the Year
award win and our own Business Directors of the Year win. Alongside this there are still three awards
to be announced, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more trophies to add to the list. Winning these awards isn’t so we can boast about them. Yes they are amazing accolades, but they couldn’t
be achieved without the dedication, thought and creativity that has been channeled into each entry by our amazing team of super stylists and creative minds behind the business. Each win ensures you can be assured that Westrow really does offer you the best in business and creativity. We have always strived to set ourselves apart from our competitors with our values and beliefs – everything is about preparing for today, which in turn allows us to plan for tomorrow. We are proactive and reactive and
understand about the perception of the business and how it is perceived and received and ultimately, we have never diversified from our original thought process 25 years ago, which is quality over quantity every time.

Happy reading!

Marc Westerman Steve Rowbottom

Made in Leeds- He's Got IT!

HE’S GOT IT!

Matthew Sutcliffe from Westrow’s 18 Thornton’s Arcade salon – one of seven stylish salons the brand has across Yorkshire – has been proving his worth in the haidressing industry this year with a whole host of accolades.

Earlier this year Matthew proved his ceative prowess by scooping the top spot, along with Lauren Elliott from Westrow West Park, at the prestigious 57th annual L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final at the opulent Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

The fabulous finale at the spectacular event was attended by more than 1,000 of the hairdressing industry’s most prolific and accomplished figureheads, where their award-winning model look captured the attention of the judging panel through their flawless merge of immaculate hair colour and beautiful finish, alongside editorially-inspired make-up and stunning catwalk-inspired styling. Each element worked in synergy and truly reflected their awareness of key current fashion trends.

Adding to his covetable trophy portfolio, Matthew also took the title of the IT Guy on Creative HEAD’s 2012 IT List – the national awards event for hairdressers aged 30 or under, sponsored by ghd. Hosted by comedian Seann Walsh at the breathtakingly beautiful Royal Courts of Justice in central London, Matthew took his trophy to a standing ovation by an audience of some of the biggest names in hairdressing and high fashion, the perfect addition to his 2012 L’Oreal Colour Trophy award.

Recognising and rewarding a male star in the making, Matthew has proven to be a white-hot name excelling in all aspects of his career and demonstrating unparalleled passion and skill. From rising through the salon ranks to being in demand backstage at a whole host of shoots and shows, as The IT Guy victor, Matthew has proven he’s a fashion force to be reckoned with and is destined for industry greatness.

Matthew’s presentation was described by one of the judges as: “An amazing presentation with great attention and screaming personality. Matthew’s approach to and execution of work is outstanding.”

Matthew is also finalised in the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s FAME Team. The Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence (FAME) Team are selected annually to promote a new generation of bright young hairdressers. Westrow Scoops British Hairdressing Business Awards

Nice hair guys! - (L-R) Dan Lobb, Steve Rowbottom, Marc Westerman and Jayne Lewis-Orr

Westrow hairdressing, which has seven salons across Yorkshire, was celebrating again on Monday night after taking home the trophy in the Business Director of the Year and Franchisee of the Year categories at the national 2012 British Hairdressing Business Awards.

Held at the Lancaster London Hotel, London on Monday 17 September 2012, presented by Hairdressers Journal International and hosted by leading media personality, Dan Lobb, the national British Hairdressing Business Awards are now in their fourteenth year and are designed to specifically recognise and celebrate excellence and exceptional business practice within the hairdressing industry.

Laura Procter from Westrow West Park took home the trophy for Franchisee of the Year at the event, while the ultimate accolade of the night and most prestigious business award in the hairdressing industry - Business Director of the Year - went to Westrow directors Steve Rowbottom and Marc Westerman for their forward-thinking, entrepreneurial expertise and skill.

The event, which has sixteen categories, recognises and rewards the commercial insight and foresight of the leading hairdressers and business talent throughout the UK. To enter, salons or individuals have to fulfil the set criteria, which must be presented in a dossier. This is initially judged by a team of industry experts along with the sponsors of each category. From these impartial judging sessions, finalists are chosen and the dossiers judged by an independent panel of judges, including industry experts, business journalists and financial specialists.

For Business Director of the Year, Marc Westerman and Steve Rowbottom were required to submit an entry that proved their forward-thinking business strategy and prowess, roles, achievements, motivational and entrepreneurial skills and industry passions, backed up with statistics and an interview with a panel of industry experts.

For Franchisee of the Year Laura Procter was required to submit a dossier highlighting Westrow West Park's turnover, marketing and brand activity, training, career opportunities and business aims and long-term objectives.

Marc Westerman and Steve Rowbottom were shortlisted against six other UK salons in the Business Director of the Year category while Laura Procter was shortlisted against three other UK salons in the Franchisee of the Year category, with the trio selected by judges as the best in the business, demonstrating exemplary business acumen and skill.

Steve Rowbottom, Westrow director said: "Winning this award is a great personal and professional accolade for us. We have always strived to set ourselves apart from our competitors with our values and beliefs - everything is about planning for today, which in turn allows us to plan for tomorrow.

"We are proactive and reactive and understand about the perception of the business and how business is perceived and received and ultimately we have never diversified from our original thought process 25 years ago, which is quality over quantity every time."

Marc Westerman said: "This year, which is our 25th year in business, has been an incredible one for Westrow. To win both the Franchisee of the Year and Business Director of the Year awards is a wonderful feeling, and is the perfect launch pad for our Westrow Academy, a centre of educational excellence, which is set to open in the heart of Leeds in 2013."

Publishing Director of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr, commented: "Entries were alive with innovation, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial expertise showing amazing skills across the breadth of business management. The judges had an extremely difficult job as standards were so high and for Westrow to be chosen as winner of two categories at the British Hairdressing Business Awards is a tremendous testimony to their skills and business acumen."
