FAME Team update with Mathew Sutcliffe..A Day With Richard from Saco-London.

FAME Team update with Mathew Sutcliffe..A Day With Richard from Saco-London.
Venue: Saco Academy, Goodge Street, London.

When arriving at the Saco Academy we were greeted by Brett- one of the senior educators at Saco. Brett is from the Gold Coast and is an ex-FAME Team member from nearly ten years ago. After briefly talking to Brett, naturally everyone felt at home as there was common ground between us (everyone shared the same interests and passions).

We were then taken down in to the main seminar and educator area and asked take a seat. A short video of Richard and Saco's work was played before Richard made his entrance with two stunning models.

After introducing himself, Richard and Brett showcased some of the best cutting skills I've ever seen!

On Richards model he wanted to create a strong online with disconnection- resulting in a multifunctional haircut.

Brett worked a short bob with a fringe that enhanced her natural features.

Their style of work is more about the suitability to the client/model and how each element of the haircut works with the natural features and hair textures.
This is a great rule at Saco and you can see it throughout all the work they do.

After a short break we were introduced to Richards second model- a long dark haired girl. He demonstrated how haircuts can be incorporated in to longer hairstyles without having to do a generic layer that is mostly commonly found in salons.

Sam, the colour specialist, then set about colouring Brett's first model. Stating that the same rule applies when working with colour; 'style is suitability.' Sam is very articulated in his use of words with her descriptions of colour being like poetry. It is obvious her knowledge of colour is second to none.

We worked on one model each in the afternoon. (supplied by Saco) Not only was this a great opportunity to work with Richard and his team but to also see where were with our own team and see where we wanted to take our forthcoming shoots, shows and seminars.

This was one of the best days of my career! Richard and Saco know their shit!

Go with the flow Come on,Vogue

Congratulations to Westrow's Lauren Elliot and Matthew Sutcliffe, winners of the 2012 L'Oreal Colour Trophy, whose stunning work has been showcased in the latest issue of Brtish Vogue. Editor Alexandra Shulman describes the March issue as: "one of the most relevant of the year" and the spring equivalent of the September issue. "As a fashion showcase, we know that it will be scanned by designers, photographers, stylists and retailers, as well as by our faithful non-industry readers, to see what is happening in the fashion world, and this year we won't disappoint," says Alexandra. "Apart from anything else, the breadth of photography and styling emphasises the versatility and originality of the creative side of fashion."

FameTeam update with Mathew Sutcliffe..A Day With Errol Douglas

FameTeam update with Mathew Sutcliffe.
A Day With Errol Douglas
The day started early for all of the 'Fame Team' members. As snow covered most of England the team were heading to the Bed Head studio in Battersea to spend a full day learning editorial and avant-garde hair from the master that is Errol Douglas MBE.
Without too much disruption the team assembled at 10am; Errol had already set up his kit and had prepped his model - he obviously haven’t had to battle with southern rail since 7am! We were amazed at the amount of hair pieces and kit he had but couldn’t wait to hear about the day he had planned for us. We started the day with a fascinating talk through Errol’s career; it was enthralling to hear about how it all started in a salon in the East End of London aged 11, as a Saturday boy and how he worked his way up the ladder even sharing his 'Fame Team' experience to reach the point where he is traveling across the globe working on high profile shoots and shows. He also shared some invaluable advice on being the fame team 2013.
Errol brought his amazing 6ft pale brunet model out from where she was hiding - the hair had already been prepped with some embossing to create a candyfloss texture to work with. The first look Errol did for us used some of his favourite items of kit - chopped up hair donuts - a series of roles placed on top of the hair. It was a fantastic first look.
The next style used a hair piece Errol and his team had prepped along with a very fine hair net - again he showed us ways of securing the hair and how to attach external hair pieces. This look was full of movement through the back but with a very fine black hairnet created structure.
The penultimate look was hidden hair pieces and wire; created by covering a visor in the models hair and wiring a plat at the back with the end result been a shell shape.
The final style re-created one of Errol’s BHA looks; it not only had a hair peace but the return of Errol’s prised donuts. It encompassed all the elements of the day and was a fabulous look to finish on and when the gown was removed the combination of killer heals and a sky scraping hair style, the model looked incredible.
After lunch it was our turn and we all got involved as soon as we could. In something akin to the Great British Bake Off we all started busily prepping our models hair with the same super fine crimp that Errol used. We spent the afternoon jamming with each other creating our own versions of Errol’s looks and then taking it in our own direction. By the end of the day we had the start of some amazing shapes we could use in the shows and shoots we have coming up.
Over all it was a great day once again.
