Olympic Dreams Do Come True

WESTROW WELCOMES PARALYMPIAN CLAIRE CASHMORE TO ITS LEEDS SALON FOR SOME MEDAL BEHAVIOUR
Westrow hairdressing, which has seven salons across Yorkshire, welcomed Paralympics champion, Claire Cashmore, to its Leeds city centre salon on Thursday 13 September 2012, for some post-event pampering from stylist Matthew Kitching.

Super swimmer and triple medallist at the 2012 London games, Claire visited Westrow 4-6 Thornton’s Arcade straight from the homecoming celebration held in Millenium Square in Leeds, where more than 300 well-wishers lined the streets to welcome her and fellow Yorkshire Paralympians – Hannah Cockroft, Ali Jawad and David Stone – home.

Claire, who competed in six different events in her third Paralympic games, was a triple medal winner at London 2012, scooping two silver medals in the women’s SB8 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay team and a bronze in the women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay, bringing her medley of medals into the salon for all to see.

Westrow Director, Marc Westerman (pictured with Claire above), said: “It was great to welcome Claire to Westrow yesterday after her triumph at London 2012. We had been cheering her on throughout the games, so invited her to enjoy some post-Paralympics pampering at our city centre salon along with a goody bag of products from Kerastase. It was an honour to meet her and everyone at Westrow looks forward to charting her progress in Rio in 2016.”

Simply the Best!

Marc and Steve receive their award.

Monday 17 September saw the best in the hairdressing industry rewarded for their professional expertise at HJ's 2012 British Hairdressing Business Awards at the Lancaster Hotel, London.
The ultimate accolade of Business Director of the Year went to an ecstatic Steve Rowbottom and Marc Westerman from Westrow, Leeds. The announcement of their win was met by a resounding response from guests gathered at the Lancaster London hotel.
Said Jayne Lewis-Orr, publishing director of HJ: "Once again the British Hairdressing Business Awards proved a fitting tribute to those who contribute exceptional business acumen and drive to the hairdressing industry.
While the creativity within hairdressing should never be underestimated, the success of any salon or salon group also relies on those with commercial insight and foresight, and the HJ British Hairdressing Business Awards is all about honouring these individuals and teams."
Earlier in the evening Laura Proctor from Westrow Westpark picked up The Franchisee of the Year Award sponsored by Hairdressers Journal to complete an amazing treble of awards during 2012.

Westrow York moves into its new home!

Westrow York moves into its new home!

Westrow York – one of seven hairdressing salons the brand has across Yorkshire – has recently moved to premium premises in the centre of York. Housed on Swinegate, amongst a whole host of upmarket eateries and shops, including Mulberry, the 1,000 sq ft premises has been fully refurbished to meet the high expectations of the business’s discerning clientele.
Taking inspiration from boutique hotels across the globe, the shop front boasts a classic design in line with the Westrow brand. Inside, original beams fuse with American black walnut flooring, while bespoke mirrors add a luxurious feel and Italian-inspired LED eco-friendly lighting ensures a perfect, even light throughout. Downstairs is home to four styling stations, where black, high-gloss granite flooring in the reception and backwash areas add a touch of luxe. Contemporary and cool, the salon is striking, yet sympathetic to its surroundings and the City of York.
The backwash area is separated from the salon with a floor-to-ceiling frosted, curved glass wall for maximum privacy, and incorporates relaxing mood lighting to set the tone. A no-talking policy in this area also ensures a calm, serene environment, allowing clients to unwind before they head to the buzz of the salon outside.
Contemporary pinstriped carpet adorns the stairway in Westrow’s corporate colours, leading to the upstairs, which houses seven styling stations and a separate VIP area that can also cater for colour clients. This area is perfectly placed for parties, wedding and events.
“We wanted a sharp salon that not only looked good, but that worked on every level,” says franchisee, Rachel White of the refit. “The aim was to create a relaxing environment that was both contemporary and cool. The new salon is housed in a premium area of the city and now the refurbishment is complete, we can ensure our clients can sit back and relax, enjoying a wonderful hairdressing experience in a great location.”

The New Colour Code

Fancy going icy blonde for winter?
The New Colour Code
Fashion plays a huge part when it comes to creating hair colour trends and techniques; Westrow’s Technical Director Jenny Pelter talks us through the new looks.
Coloured hair is already emerging as one of the key trends for autumn winter 2013. Having already popped up at Pringle and Meadham Kirchoff, Prada in Milan and Jean Paul Gaultier in Paris for, hair is set to go colour crazy if the runways are anything to go by. The trend for darker hair is set to be much more about bold, clashing colours, merging into one another. Prada showcased a great collection with models walking the runways with dip-dyed locks of clashing colours of copper, red and black tones. A very different look when compared with the spring summer candy coloured dip dyes – things are a lot more grungy for autumn.
Dip-dye is shaping up to quite literally be one of this decade’s highlights and it looks like it’s here to stay, evolving every season with a slight twist to keep things fresh. It’s a technique that allows clients to colour their hair without the commitment. Jean Paul Gaultier turned dip-dye on its head this season, with his models showcasing multi-coloured, painted freestyle roots for a Goth vibe and this is going be a big trend to look out for in 2013.
Blondes will look less maintained – roots will be key, in line with a grungier feel, and dark roots will look cool rather than unkempt.
Reddish coppers are also set to be big next season – think Jessica Rabbit style, long, beautifully-shiny locks with glossy coppery tones.
