The annual tour of seven regions will present a ‘Hair Inspired by Fashion’ catwalk show with an exclusive collection from the renowned fashion designer taken straight from the runways of his 2012 Autumn /Winter and Spring /Summer London Fashion Week shows – where Westrow Wetherby’s Nicola Hulatt-Richards worked behind the scenes styling the hair this season.

1. Start by applying L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art pli to the roots and rough blow-dry.

2. Use a good pintail comb to create a sharp centre parting.

3. Lazy-wave sections of the hair using large hair tongs. Curl the two front sections away from the face, the rest can be quite random.

4. Using your fingers, shake hair out and apply L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art super dust through front section, mid-lengths and ends for volume and a matt finish.

Can I wear a quiff?

What hair type do I need for a quiff?
Preferably straight or slightly wavy hair with layers. It works better on colour-treated hair because the cuticle will be slightly roughed up, which makes it hold better.
How do I create it?
Spray a thickening spray on damp hair and use large Velcro rollers on the crown, roll them to the back and blowdry on a low speed, then brush out. Take one inch sections and backcomb with a fine-tooth comb. Repeat on all sections on top of the head until you reach the back of the crown. Make the back lower than the front, then lightly brush over with a bristle brush and smooth down top hairs. Scrape hair back on either side of the head with the brush and hold with gel.
How high should I go?
A quiff is a personal statement. If you're a daring diva wear it three to four inches high for runway impact, but if you're just a fashion toe-dipper, two inches will get you noticed, and respect from the fashionistas for trying!
Do I have to backcomb my hair? Will this damage it?
You have to backcomb for it to stay up, but it won't damage your hair if you only do it occasionally and use a light spray – a hard spray will break your hair when you brush it. To remove, simply wash and condition first and comb hair while the conditioner is in.
What will keep it in place all night?
If pinned right a force nine gale won't beat it, but a handbag-size can of spray could save the day.

Salon Franchise owner Laura Procter (a.k.a. Page) has been at Westrow for over 11 years and has had her own salon for 6 years. She is currently on maternity leave with her new baby boy George, born on the 1st December.Page is an extremely hard working and professional person, which reflects 100% on her staff........
 
Steven Haggerty has been at Westrow Westpark for over 3 years and has worked his way up from Senior Stylist to Management, to run the salon while Page is away on maternity leave.A future salon franchise owner in the making!
 
Frankie Lee is an Elite Stylist and been with Westrow Westpark since we opened 6 years ago. Frankie entered the L'Oreal Colour Trophy and got through to regional finals and was also a finalist in the L'Oreal ID Artist Programme.She has great expertise in both cutting and colouring and is particularly fantastic at wedding hair or a 'funky up do' she also specialises in Racoon extentions.Frankie regulary has one to one courses with a some of the countries top session stylists. 
 
Vanessa Phillips is a Stylist and quite the new girl at Westrow Westpark. She joined us in May last year and fits in lovely. Vanessa does cutting and colouring as well as putting hair up, Vanessa is our in salon Kerastase ambassador, specialising in tackling any hair and scalp issues.
 
Rachel Morris is a Graduate stylist and been at Westrow Westpark through her training so been with us over 4 years. Rachel does both cutting and colouring. She is fantastic at contempory haircuts and is our L'Oreal product expert.
 
Lauren Elliot is a colour specialist and been at Westrow Westpark for over 4 years. She has done all her training with Westrow and is excellent at what she does and creating her own colour ideas. Lauren is currently going in for Loreal ID artist and is very excited about it.
 
All our stylists are trained in Brazillian kerratin treatments.
 
We have currently got 3 lovely assistants. Joe Naylor has been with us for nearly 2 years, he started as Saturday staff and then went on to full time, training to be a stylist.
Farah Harper has been with us full time since leaving school last year, Farrah was our Saturday girl for over a year before that.
Jess Green has been with us since leaving school last year. As with all our assistants she making excellent progress with her training and confidence with clients.
All our assistants are trained to do an amazing head massage whilst shampooing.
 
Suzi Foster is Receptionist on Thursday Fri and Saturday.She has been at Westrow for over 11 years, moving from Leeds salon to Westpark over a year ago. Suzi has been on various courses from product knowlege to management courses. 
Claire Milner is receptionist on Mon Tues and Weds.She has been at Westrow Westpark for over two years and is currently on maternity leave. Both Claire and Suzi have a spot on reception relationship communicating each week so our reception runs very smoothly.

Do you have problems finding a style to suit your glasses. This handy blog answers some of your questions.
How do I find the right pair of glasses?
You can either enhance your features or style with a radical pair of high fashion glasses, or blend them in with your face shape, so that they become part of your look – the choice is yours. But always take a friend with you when choosing a pair, their second opinion can be invaluable!

What about going out in the evening?
You should think about matching your glasses to a variety of different styles when visiting your hairdresser, even if you just like to wear your hair behind your ears one day and loose the next. If you want a hairstyle that suits two pairs of glasses let your stylist know before your hair is cut. Take them with you to the salon so you can try them on as your hair is cut.

What about finding the right hair colour?
If your glasses are a neutral metal colour or a brown shade you shouldn’t really have any trouble with colours. But if you like to have a little colour on your glasses remember that your hair may have to be slightly altered to match them perfectly. Chat with your stylist and take your glasses with you to hold next to the shade card.

Can I ever wear my hair up with my glasses?
Of course you can! There are numerous tricks that can be used to hide many head shape issues when putting your hair up normally, let alone balancing your look when you are wearing glasses. Go for a look that is soft and curly around the ears for a feminine touch.

1. Wash hair with volumising shampoo and dry thoroughly with a large barrelled brush. Part your hair on one side.
2. For extra body and oomph set the hair in heated rollers. Take sections of hair about 1 – 2in thick and wrap around the roller fairly tight. If the roller doesn’t feel secure, add pins to help keep them in place.

2011 highlights: I loved working on the Charlie Le Mindu show at this year’s L’Oréal Colour Trophy in London – it was a great experience – as was entering the Awards this year, too. I also worked at London Fashion Week last month, which
was amazing. Aside from the creative, I have been concentrating on the education side of things – most recently working with Nicola Hulatt-Richards on the UK-based H3 education programme from L’Oréal Professionnel, which Steve Rowbottom headed up internationally last year. As an ambassador for the brand I am responsible for teaching students from the North East region the looks from the programme, so they can take it back to their salons.

Glossy manes in glossy mags are just par for the
Westrow course these days. Here, creative director
Steve Rowbottom and creative team stylist, Nicola
Hulatt-Richards, talk about making waves for Vogue

Renowned as the style bible across the globe, Vogue is synonymous with fashion-forward trends, so it
was fitting that Westrow Creative Director Steve Rowbottom and Creative Team member, Nicola Hulatt-Richards, were requested to take part in a shoot that would grace the pages of its September issue – the biggest and most coveted of the year. Focusing on the L’Oréal Professionnel INOA colour range – an ammonia-free,in-salon, permanent hair colouring system comprising eight families of fashion shades– the design duo worked within the copper family of tones to perfect their stunning look; the perfect hue for the screen siren style they created on the day. “Vogue is very clear with its direction, and although there was some flexibility in the finished look, the team did set a brief of 1950’s Hollywood seductive beauty, but with a modern twist,” said Nicola. “They wanted us to create a screen siren style, taking inspiration from Jessica Rabbit and Dita Von Teese, which we updated with glamorous waves breaking near the temples.”The shoot – the third one the Westrow Creative Team has collaborated on for Vogue – took place in May at the Worx studios in Parsons Green, London. “Our call time was 8am, however we didn’t start shooting until 5pm because the Dior dress for our model was flown in especially from Milan, and was held up at Heathrow!” recalls Nicola.With the damsel and the dress drama over, the team worked their magic to ensure it was a resounding success – with their model’s hair seriously making waves with the Vogue team. “After prepping the hair we tonged it and used large rollers to create a little lift,” says Steve. “The hair was then brushed out and fixed with L’Oréal Professionnel tecni art anti-frizz spray, for a truly glamorous look.”“Working on such prestigious projects is great recognition for Westrow,” continued Steve. “We are renowned for our cutting ability as a company, but we also have an extremely talented group of session stylists on board, so having the opportunity to showcase our session work in Vogue is one of the best forms of recognition for us.”

The Westrow Creative Team have been wowing the industry with their cool creations and innovation at a whole host of events recently.We ask them to tell us their highlights of 2011.
We ask Nicola Hulatt -Richards to give usher highlights.

2011 highlights: I have enjoyed a great year and have worked on a few really exciting projects,including travelling to Milan with Steve Rowbottom to recreate
some of our signature Westrow styles for more than 500 Italian hairdressers. I also assisted Steve at the Professional Hairdresser Live show in Manchester Central, where we headed up the L’Oréal Professionnel platform, and most recently we worked together on the Vogue photoshoot for its September issue. On the education side, I have been working with Matthew (Sutcliffe) as one of the
H3 ambassadors for the North-East region, which has been great as we get to educate hairdressers from across the UK on current trend-led looks. The Westrow Creative Team is made up of people of all different strengths, which ensures the team is well-rounded and able to take on anything.

Renowned for: Men’s hairdressing/teaching.

2011 highlights: mentoring the L’Oréal Professionnel ID Artist team (an initiative that offers progressive hairdressers a two-year talent development programme) has been one of the biggest. I worked with them for two-days in Manchester,
where I delivered my interpretation of L’Oréal’s A/W11 collection so that they could gain tips on how to deliver on stage for their showcase later this month. I have also enjoyed running my own courses at the L’Oréal academies as I come from a teaching background, having taught at Sassoon’s for 10 years. This year I headed up three Barbering courses in Leeds, Manchester and London and worked alongside Steve Rowbottom at his Contemporary Classics course in London.

INTRODUCING 18 Thorntons Arcade Leeds

Situated in the heart of the Leeds Shopping District 18 Thorntons Arcade is the second of two Westrow Salons in the Arcade.

One of the founding Directors Steve Rowbottom works from this Salon and is available for booking two and a half days a week.
Our joint Salon Manager's are Mandy and Anne Marie who both do an amazing job in making your visit to Westrow an enjoyable one.
Also with us since 2003 is Creative Director Guy, who along with Steve run many of the Creative and Educational Seminars that Westrow undertake for both L'Oreal and ghd. Leanne who is also a Creative Director has been with the company for 4 years. Natalie is one of our Elite Stylists at the Salon and has been with Westrow for 8 years whilst Lucy who is also an Elite Stylist has recently returned to Westrow. Veronica is our Senior Stylist and has been with the company for the last year, we also have Jess who has been with us 5 years and Janine for the last six months as our Stylists.
Our Assistants who keep the salon ticking over and look after all the shampooing are Amy, Charlotte and Ebony. The girls are also embarking on the Westrow Training and Education Program which will hopefully see them as fully fledged stylists in the future.

INTRODUCING 4-6 Thorntons Arcade Leeds

Situated in the heart of the Leeds Shopping District 4-6 Thorntons Arcade is one of two Westrow Salons in the Arcade.
One of the founding Directors Marc Westerman works from this Salon and his available for booking two and a half days a week.
The Salon Manager is Stephan who has been with Westrow since 1994.
Also with us since 1994 is Sam our Westrow Training Director. Elite Stylist Stacey joined Westrow some 15 years ago and Elite Stylist Susan has been with the company for 8 years.Elite Stylist Lucy who recently returned to Westrow after originally training with us can also be booked at 18 Thorntons Arcade. Zoe is our Senior Stylist of 6 years and relatively new to Westrow is Ty who joined us 6 months ago. Ty hails origionally from Brazil and she has relocated from London to join the team.
Our Front of House team are the two Lisa's who will look after your every need when you enter the Salon.
Our Assistants who keep the salon ticking over and look after all the shampooing are Megan,Sophie and Emily. The girls are also embarking on the Westrow Training and Education Program which will hopefully see them as fully fledged stylists in the future.
